With the emerging hemp industry, there has been an explosion of new hemp CBD products on the market. From CBD-infused sodas and teas to tinctures and lotions, there is a seeming endless list of products to choose from, sold by a wide variety of companies that you may have heard of and even more companies that you haven’t. When it comes to any new product that you are putting on or into your body, you want to make sure that it’s safe and effective, especially if you are planning to use that product for therapeutic purposes.

Why Worry?

There are many reasons to be careful when it comes to consuming any kind of hemp CBD product. Under the current law, the Food and Drug Administration (FDA) is required to create federal regulations on safety but are still in the drafting process. That means it’s up to the industry to regulate hemp CBD products, and not all companies are doing the right thing. There have been cases of adulterated CBD being imported from China, where there are even fewer regulations and no way to verify safety. While many hemp products seem fairly innocuous, for people who rely on CBD products for their wellness, it’s imperative to know the source of your hemp CBD to ensure that it’s safe and up to the highest quality standards.

Do Your Homework

Although industrial hemp only recently became legalized with the passage of the 2018 Farm Bill, there was already a thriving hemp industry in 38 states, with many other states also considering implementing hemp programs. As such, there are plenty of established companies already producing high quality products in these states. States with hemp cultivation programs have strict regulations in place to make sure that products undergo testing before being sold in the market. The best way to ensure that a hemp CBD product is safe is to examine the Certificate of Analysis (COA). A COA shows the results of a series of tests performed by an accredited lab to determine the levels of CBD and THC, as well as the presence of other adulterants such as heavy metals, pesticides, residual solvents, and microbials. This testing should be done by an independent third-party lab, separate from the company producing the hemp CBD product. You can learn more in our blog post on how to verify a Certificate of Analysis.

Reputation Matters!

In the hemp industry, reputation is everything. Companies that are thriving one minute can easily go belly-up in a matter of months if they’re selling an inferior or unsafe product or are breaking the rules. Word travels fast through the hemp community, and members know if a product is solid or shoddy. Ask friends, family, and people working in the industry for tips. Looking for genuine product reviews is also a good idea. Luckily, we’ve done the homework for you and only work with hemp companies that make clean and consistent products with verified independent lab testing for total transparency. We take your well being seriously and only sell the best hemp products on the market.
